Bangkang Cave is an underground bat cave like no other. With bamboo stairs leading down and burning coconuts making for a memorable smell, the light rays that come in around midday will blow your mind! Here’s our guide of everything you need to know when visiting the incredible Lombok bat cave.
How To Get To Bangkang Cave – Goa Bangkang Prabu
Bangkang Cave, or Goa Bangkang Prabu as the locals call it, is around a 10 minute drive from Kuta – the main tourist area in Lombok.
We rented scooters for 50,000 IDR a day and chose to explore the south of Lombok on two wheels.
Drivers are available throughout town to rent daily if you’re not confident on scooters and Bangkang Cave is easy to find using the google map below.
Entrance – 60,000 IDR per person
The Sunrays, The Smell And The Lombok Bat Cave
We’d seen only a couple of photos online and knew that Bangkang Cave was a somewhat of an unknown spot on Lombok, so we had to try and find it.
Our mission began from Kuta at around 11am as we headed West, following maps.me to a location rightly named as ‘Mystical Neverland Bat Cave’.
If you don’t keep your eyes peeled it’s easily missed, as from the road it appears to be just a pile of rubble. Although luckily we spotted the ‘Neverland’ sign and a local guided us down.
The entrance fee was a bit steep for Indonesia. Considering we only paid 10,000 IDR for Kelingking Beach – one of the most touristic spots in Bali, they were charging 60,000 IDR per person to enter Bangkang Cave. But we had to pay it!
Inside, the locals burned coconuts and the sound of the bats was terrifying. But the magical bamboo stairway leading down and the incredible rays of light that followed were unbelievable!
We shot photos and made videos until we couldn’t take the heat anymore. There were thousands of bats that we got as close to as possible. Although we were more amazing by the way the sunlight hit the rocks and created such beautiful spotlights of sunshine!
Sunrays we’ll never forget and a smell that will take weeks to get out of your clothes – Bangkang Cave Lombok is definitely a must visit on the island!
The best time to catch the sun rays is around 12pm.
