So with Moalboal being next on the list and Kawasan Falls just around the corner, the last thing we thought we’d be doing was scuba diving with turtles. But when the opportunity with Blue Orchid came up it was something we definitely couldn’t turn down…
Tucked away and situated by the sea, The Blue Orchid Resort & Dive Centre was completely tranquil yet fun. They offer a range of diving experiences for beginners to pros and if diving isn’t your thing they also have many adventurous activities you can participate in around the area, from canyoneering in waterfalls to swimming with whale sharks and snorkelling with sardines!
Upon arrival we were welcomed into the resort by Richard and Steve. They explained our step by step itinerary for the couple of days we’d be staying and everything we needed to know about the resort.
Beach Side View
We were guided up to our super spacious bedroom that was simple and chic. With a modern ensuite, air conditioning and a huge four poster bed we were in for the best nights sleep we’d had in a while…plus this little haven would come in really handy after our tiring days in the ocean.
Ocean View Balcony
The best part about our double deluxe room had to be our ocean view balcony. From waking up to sunrise to eating dinner and reflecting on the days achievements we spent plenty of time savouring the moments from here.
As for the diving experience itself, it’s fair to say we were a little nervous about entering the underwater world for the first time. When the guys lined up the heavy pieces of equipment, naturally it was a bit daunting. Luckily Steve, Emily and Julie made absolutely sure that we felt as comfortable as possible. We could tell straight away that we were in safe hands. They couldn’t have looked after us any more and using their honed skills took us from the pool to the ocean with complete confidence.
Our Discovery Scuba Dive
We completed our Discovery Scuba Dive (DSD) and after practising on the beautiful house reef took a boat out to sea. We swam for nearly an hour with the ocean wildlife. It was a massive accomplishment for both of us and it’s opened up some great opportunities for us. Not only that, it’s also added a couple of ticks to our bucket list – turtle selfie complete.
The Restaurant/Bar Area
The warm ambience in the evenings definitely set the scene and made us enjoy our stay that little bit more. With most of the guests and staff gathering in the bar/restaurant area it was a real communal feeling. Plus the happy hours and free popcorn definitely brought everyone together! The food was exceptional and the staff couldn’t have been more attentive. With a selection of local and western foods plus snacks served 24/7 it was the perfect place to hang out!
Overall, our stay at Blue Orchid was definitely like no other. We felt rejuvenated for the next part of our journey and came away feeling super lucky to have spent time with such lovely people. We’d also accomplished something we’d never dreamed of! If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful to stay after learning how to dive with the best diving team in the Philippines then look no further.
