Down in the southern state of Kerala, just around the corner from Fort Kochi beach, lies the beautiful boutique hotel – Koder House. We spent a couple of nights, in between our backwaters tour, unwinding in this little piece of heaven.
Located in the historic area of Fort Kochi, Koder House and its distinctive character is one of Cochin’s many recognisable monuments. Originally owned by a well known and respected jewish family, the Koder’s, it’s played host to presidents, prime ministers, hollywood directors and many more important faces over the years.
As we arrived we were greeted with a glass of cold juice and smiling attentive staff that made us feel right at home. We were then given a tour of the luxurious three-story building. Kodar House consisted of six extremely spacious suites. As well as two grand sitting areas, a spa, a restaurant, an outdoor plunge pool and plenty of places to relax.
Shortly after checking in we were escorted up to the top floor and left alone to enjoy our deluxe suite. It began with a huge bedroom/living area that came with a large double bed, a TV, a working space and a balcony overlooking the local park. Attached to the bedroom was a roomy landing. This held a double wardrobe, a mini fridge and a variety of beautiful oak furniture…
…this led through to the state of the art bathroom. The bathroom came with a shower, a Jacuzzi bath and all those little extras that make your stay that bit more homely.
The facilities at Koder House were those of royalty. They definitely gave the impression that people of wealth once lived there. The added touches of a business centre and a chess playing space were great contrasts. It was an equal space for both those that work and those that play.
Finally the food at Koder House was just as exceptional as the building. The kitchen served an all inclusive breakfast between 7am – 10am and the restaurant was open to the public all day. The smiling staff and fulfilling cuisine made it impossible to fault anything. It was delicious!
Overall, the experience at Koder House was exceptional. The grand interior, the diligent staff, and also the immaculate facilities made for an unforgettable stay.
