With its unique ‘Poshtel’ approach, We Escape Weligama was a spot we couldn’t bear to miss on our trip through the south of Sri Lanka.
Across the train tracks and down a beautifully lit driveway, sits one of the most historic buildings in Weligama…and now, thanks to Mosvold, one of the coolest places for travellers to stay, We Escape.
Mosvold, incase you didn’t know, run a very successful, luxurious accommodation chain in Sri Lanka. So its latest project, aimed at an audience travelling on a budget, certainly didn’t disappoint.
The first things we were greeted by were ice cold flannels and tropical juice! The guys on reception were extremely professional and made us feel more than welcome from the get go.
In no time at all we were checked into our 6 bed A/C dorm. It was super clean, funky as well as simplistic. The unbelievably comfy mattresses and soft cotton sheets allowed us to indulge in a perfect night’s sleep.
Through the old style, chic doors was the attached bathroom. Inside consisted of 2 toilets, 2 showers and included shampoo, body lotion and even toothbrush holders! All the little things that give We Escape that luxury edge over any normal backpacker accomodation.
Around the open planned grounds was a mixture of vintage furniture and modern artwork, which gave off a real upbeat hippie vibe.
The bean bags made for a great area to chill out, giving off a laid back feel for the many backpackers and lovers of surf that flock here.
Leading off from the chill area lay the remarkable restaurant which the staff obviously took great pride in. They warmly welcomed anyone passing through and the service was second to none…not to mention the delicious food they serve up.
The cream of the crop had to be the immaculate pool area. Surrounded by palm trees and parasols, this is where you can really put your feet up and soak up the south Sri Lankan sun.
Overall our stay at We Escape was a 10/10 and if we ever pass through Weligama again there’s only one place we’ll be heading!
