Getting around Copenhagen couldn’t be simpler. There are a few options.
Another option is to of course walk.
Which is ideal for the city centre, however if you want to see some of the outskirts like Freetown Christiania or Christianhavn, it may be a bit too much.
We always choose to rent bicycles, which start at around £16 per day, and explore ourselves.
If you’re looking for somewhere to rent scooters from you can book a trusted bike rental here.
The most popular option is to use public transport, whether it be by boat or by bus, the Red Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-off Bus and Boat option is ideal for tourists.
For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are even tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.
From food tours, to canal rides and pub crawls, there’s plenty of things to keep you busy in the Danish capital!

First stop on the Instagrammable places in Copenhagen list has to be the colourful houses of Nyhavn.
Although Nyhavn is usually more popular in summer, it’s always the most popular tourist attraction in the city due to the colourful iconic houses that back onto the canal.
This one is completely up to you where you take a photo from, there’s no set spot. However we headed down to the concrete bollards as it was a lot less crowded.
Amongst this famous picturesque harbour is where various canal tour excursions start, but it also makes for one of the most beautiful Copenhagen Instagram spots!

As you walk around Nyhavn Harbour, you’ll notice the many boats docked up along the side of the river.
From sailing boats, to canal cruisers, Nyhavn is a Copenhagen Instagram spot that tours depart from. And you can book some awesome ones here.
Originally, it was a busy commercial port where ships from all over the world would dock.
However, now it’s lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th century townhouses and bars, cafes and restaurants.
So we took the opportunity to crouch down by this old sailing boat and grab another cosy photo!

Magstraede is one of the oldest streets in the Old Town of Copenhagen.
It’s also one of the most popular Copenhagen Instagram spots!
It’s famously known for it’s colourful buildings, some that date back to the 18th century.
If you take a stroll down the cobble stone street of Magstraede, you will travel back in time and experience a relaxing walk away from the city noise.
We got creative with our bicycles for this spot and it’s definitely one to add to your Instagrammable places in Copenhagen list!
Freetown Christiania, also known as Christiania, is an alternative community in the borough of Christianshavn.
The reason for the name ‘freetown’ is based on the fact that they operate differently. They have their own laws, their own flag and their own way of life.
It’s an extremely ‘hippiefied’ area of the city, and although the decorated walls and huge art pieces are attractive, be careful as photos are not allowed in some places.
One of the most popular Instagrammable places in Copenhagen is this tree.
Located at the entrance to Freetown Christiania you shouldn’t struggle getting a great shot here.
Frederik’s Church, popularly known as The Marble Church for its rococo architecture, makes for a beautiful addition to the Instagrammable places in Copenhagen.
We came across it by chance as we were biking towards Rosenborg Castle from the city.
However we turned down a side street and the road was completely blocked off from cars. Giving us the perfect opportunity to jump in and grab an eye pleasing symmetrical shot.
Its dome is the largest in Scandinavia, so make sure not to crop it off!
Christianshavn is a district east of the inner city of Copenhagen.
It is an area of small islands known for it’s hip cafe culture and canal lined with colourful houseboats.
There are a few bridges keeping the town together, despite the Wilders Canal that runs through it, and we happened to catch a boat moored up with Christianshavn painted on the side!
Not only did it make for a cute photo spot, but it was another opportunity for us to incorporate our bikes!
