The Ultimate Los Angeles Bucket List

The Ultimate Los Angeles Bucket List

LA is everything you’ve seen in the movies, and more! There are endless places to adventure in this city, so here is an ultimate Los Angeles bucket list.

Getting Around Los Angeles + Tips

Getting around Los Angeles couldn’t be easier. There are generally 4 options:

By Car:

Aside from downtown LA, the majority of tourist spots are a little spread out in the Los Angeles area.

So hiring a car and exploring is certainly the most convenient way to get around!

We recommend booking one in advance, and fortunately car rentals are relatively cheap in Los Angeles. Plus all major car rental companies have offices at the airports.

We always go through to compare prices before locking something in prior to our trip.

There is public street parking available in most places around Los Angeles, just be sure to have a card ready to pay for the hourly parking meters.

By Public Transport:

The Los Angeles Metro is affordable, relatively easy to use, and services most of Los Angeles County and its top attractions.

The public transit system consists of Metro Buses, DASH Buses, and Metro Rail Trains.

To ride these buses, trains, and subways, we recommend purchasing a reusable TAP Card. These are available at TAP machines located within most bus or subway stations.

You CAN pay cash when you board, but you’ll need the exact fare as bus operators don’t carry change.

Otherwise Uber is a super easy and very popular way of getting from one place to another quickly in Los Angeles!

By Hop On Hop Off Bus:

Standard buses are available around Los Angeles, if you can figure out the bus routes.

However, there is also of course the famous Los Angeles Sightseeing Hop-on-Hop-off Bus.

The bus lets you explore Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica Pier and Beaches. With options of a 24, 48 or 72 hour pass.

This is always popular among tourists, and a is great way to see many famous landmarks around the City of Angels at ease.

By Tour:

Some of the best days out we’ve had in Los Angeles have been on private tours.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

From food tours, to movie studios and pub crawls, there’s plenty to keep you busy in LA!

Hollywood Sign

The first thing on the Los Angeles bucket list, is to visit the very famous Hollywood Sign.

This is not only one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, but one of the most popular filming locations for those mega movies that make it to the big screens around the world!

There are so many options when visiting the Hollywood Sign, such as the Hollywood Hills Hike, or going all out and taking a Beverly Hills and Hollywood Helicopter Tour!

You can also drive to Canyon Lake Drive yourself. Here you can park and walk around/up the hill towards Mulholland Highway for a closer shot of the sign.

With the Hollywood sign been based high up on a hill, the surrounding views are incredible.

It was such a great feeling to finally visit the Hollywood Sign, and put a big tick on our Los Angeles bucket list!

Hollywood Boulevard (Walk Of Fame)

The Walk Of Fame also certainly didn’t disappoint.

With not knowing what to expect, we were over the moon to see the engraved stars some of our favourites actors/actresses and singers etc.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame comprises more than 2,600 five-pointed terrazzo and brass stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California.

If you take the Los Angeles Sightseeing Hop-on-Hop-off Bus this will be one of your stops. The bus lets you explore Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica Pier and Beaches. With options of a 24, 48 or 72 hour pass.

One spot not to miss though, is the Chinese Theatre, where nearly 200 Hollywood celebrity handprints, footprints, and autographs are in the concrete of the theatre’s forecourt.

If you’re looking to take a tour inside the Chinese Theatre, there’s a handy Chinese Theater VIP Tour + 24-hour Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus option available.

Disneyland Park, originally Disneyland, is the first of two theme parks built at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955.

It is the only theme park designed and built to completion under the direct supervision of Walt Disney.

As you can imagine, this was the most magical experience we had in the USA and it will a day to remember.

Disney is by far the one of the best things to add to your Los Angeles bucket list and with it being the first park, it makes it all the more special.

If you’re in need of transportation to Disneyland, there’s a Round-Trip Daily Transportation to Disneyland California available to book in advance.

LACMA stands for Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and this is where we took the famous ‘Urban Light’ shot.

It’s the largest art museum in the western United States, and attracts nearly a million visitors annually.

LACMA, inspiring all kinds of creativity, holds more than 150,000 works of art from ancient times to the present.

In addition to art exhibits, the museum features film and concert series, as well as many events.

Wall Art

Los Angeles is the most vibrant, artistic community we’ve visited, so it’s easy to find incredible pieces of art work when exploring the city. You don’t have to search far and wide to find the stunning Instagram backdrops of LA.

Locals and tourists alike, stop and admire all the artwork scattered around the city. The colours along with the talent behind the art gives the city a real motivational and happy vibe.

A lot of the popular wall murals can be found on Melrose Avenue, where there’s even a Melrose Instagram Tour!

Here you can pull shapes at one of the world’s most famous mural locations, and discover the (in)famous artists that brought them to life.

Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills is a city in California’s Los Angeles County, home to many Hollywood stars.

Within the county, there is also Beverly Gardens Park which has beautiful fountains and rose gardens. Plus an illuminated Beverly Hills sign that you can get a postcard photo in front of as a token of your visit.

You can also visit The Beverly Hills Hotel, set amongst beautiful tropical gardens, with it’s famous ‘The Beverly Hills’ sign embedded across one of the walls.

Either way, Beverly Hills has to be on your Los Angeles bucket list. Even if you choose to just take a drive through the district, and gaze up at the famous palm trees!

Santa Monica & Venice

Santa Monica is a coastal city west of downtown Los Angeles and is obviously the home of the famous Santa Monica Pier. Not only was it the ending point for the old famous Route 66, it’s home to the Pacific Park amusement park and has incredible views of the Pacific Ocean.

Visiting Santa Monica is a great thing to add to your Los Angeles bucket list if you’re a beach lover. It’s a perfect break away from the city and with still so much to do.

Venice is a buzzing beach town known for its bohemian spirit. The free-spirited Venice Boardwalk has numerous funky shops, street performers and colorful murals.

There’s also a skate park and Muscle Beach outdoor gym.

Venice Beach is an ultimate Los Angeles bucket list tick because it attracts all walks of life. All cultures, genders and backgrounds are welcome, with no judgement whatsoever. You can be who you want to be in the artsy, funky district of Venice.

If you have time you could even jump on the Santa Monica and Venice 3-Hour Electric Bike Tour which could be pretty fun!

Drive-In Movie Theatre

The ultimate experience of America had to be a drive-in movie theatre. From growing up in a small town, watching a movie outside in a car was something we’d never had the opportunity to experience.

After watching many high school movies, this was a dream come true to go on a date to the drive in the back of an American truck. To top it off, we watched the new Toy Story 4!

We highly recommend Paramount Drive-In Theatres, where you can literally pull up in your vehicle, tune in the stereo and watch a movie on the big screen for only $10 per person.

Everyone should experience this same moment at least once in their lives.

Eat, Eat, Eat

the beaches, the hills, the valleys, the wide boulevards and not forgetting – THE FOOD!

Los Angeles is the place you can find anything and everything as a first time visitor. After all it’s the centre of celebrity culture.

However, it’s also one of the greatest places to eat in America, not only for its endless varieties of cuisines, but also for its incredible produce and talented chefs and restaurateurs. It’s the land of endless culinary possibility.

For the true foodies visiting Los Angeles there are tours such as the Old Pasadena Food Tasting Tour, or the Downtown Food Tour, which are sure to get your taste buds moving!

Some of our favourite (typical American tourist) places to eat were:

Denny’s Diner – Everything American. You have to visit Denny’s for the real American Diner experience. It’s fun, affordable and has the funkiest menu to any foreigner. Plus you get free pancakes on your birthday!

Monty’s Burger – A whole lot of plant based goodness. With their signature burger available in a single or double patty, your side of fries or tater tots are bound to go down a treat.

In N Out – A Grilled cheese with the almighty animal fries is the way to go!
