We round up 3 of the most well known and BEST surf spots in Sri Lanka. Here’s all you need to know if you’re a professional or you just want to learn.
The 3 Best Surf Spots In Sri Lanka
Arugam Bay is definitely where to professionals go. This spot is recognised worldwide as one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka. There are many surfing competitions held at Arugam Bay which is probably why it’s known so well.
Peanut Farm is one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka too. This cool spot is only around a 25 minute tuk tuk drive away from the centre of Arugam Bay. The beach there is stunning too. We spent the whole day at Peanut Farm in the scorching heat and played with puppies on the beach.
We rented a board and gave the surfing a go but it was a lot harder than we thought. Especially as the waves were a little too high for beginners.
Whiskey Point is also another spot around 15 minutes from Arugam Bay. We personally didn’t visit as we chose to go to Peanut Farm instead but the beach is supposed to be beautiful too. At Whisky Point there are some excellent waves for beginner surfers, so there will be lots of people on surfing lessons.
Just 15 minutes up the road from Mirissa is Weligama Beach and comes second in the best surf spots in Sri Lanka.
From beginners to professionals, this is the place to get stuck in and master the waves. So if you’re a super keen to learn, this will be one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka for you.
Along the beach are many people trying to sell surfing lessons, so you can stop and chat to whichever one is right for you.
There are a few quirky food spots around the area as well so keep your eyes peeled!
Hiriketiya Beach is located on the southern coast of the island, just next door to Dikwella Beach. It’s a small stretch of beach with golden sand and endless palm trees that also goes by the name of Hiriketiya Bay.
We jumped on the local bus from Mirissa to Dikwella as it’s super, super cheap and took around an hour.
Many people head to Hiriketiya Beach Sri Lanka for a quieter scene. There are a lot less people around and it attracts a much more chilled crowd.
It truly is a jungle Paradise with huge waves from every surfers dreams.
