Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel is a stand alone monument overlooking the whole city. One of the top things to do in Krasnoyarsk.
Situated at the top of Karaulnaya Mountain, the Chapel really puts Krasnoyarsk on the map…well the note. As its iconic structure is famously printed on one side of the 10 Rubles banknote.
Just a short walk up from the carpark, the chapel gives possibly the best view of Krasnoyarsk from above. Originally built in 1805, it was recently redecorated in 2014 adding a pastel green roof to its photogenic structure.
The modern ski resort and park has activities for all ages, all year round.
We visited on multiple occasions during our trip to Krasnoyarsk to see where some of the 2019 Winter Universiade events will be held and to take part in some local activities.
The park was beautifully green during summer and we can imagine it being cosy and covered in snow come winter. Most popular for its ski slopes and viewpoints, there are also plenty of hikes, ziplines, luges and other activities available. Not forgetting some delicious restaurants!
Stolby Nature Reserve is a strict ecological site famous for its rock formations, hiking/climbing and of course nature.
Of the 47,219 hectares available, 3.5% of the reserve is open to hikers, bringing in over 200,000 visitors per year!
The views from the top of the rocks and the peaceful trails will give you the feelings you expect from a stereotype of Siberia. And you may even be lucky enough to make some furry friends along the way.
High on the list of things to do in Krasnoyarsk for the outdoorsy kind of tourist.
So WE got a little extreme at Tatyshev Island, although it’s a beautiful place for a peaceful stroll as well.
Connected to the main city via bridge, this small green island is ideal for a morning stroll or getting out for some fresh air.
With bicycles, roller blades and go carts available to hire, there is a huge track running around the outside split into two halves: for those on wheels and for those on foot.
The locals were super friendly and the place had an awesome family feel to it.
Founded by Denis Yushin, a traveller, barber and entrepreneur, this Barber Shop is like no other!
Located down a back street in Krasnoyarsk and up a flight of stairs, you will find one of the most unique, hipster barber lofts in the world. With a fully functioning restaurant, a bar and of course the main man and his colleagues cutting hair, its a place we’ll never forget.
The decor gives off a rustic feel yet the wall art brings in the modern twist. A stand out character is Denis himself, who has become very much known around Krasnoyarsk, although stays very much quiet and humble amongst the crowds.
So whether you’re looking for a trim, a drink or a place to just hang out in the evenings this is definitely one of best things to do in Krasnoyarsk!
Krasnoyarsk may not be at the top of your list when you think of quirky coffee shops and quaint places to relax but it sure does have some!
We stopped off at Akademia Coffee for brunch and to take some time editing photos which was an awesome experience and made us feel right at home in the middle of Siberia.
So if you have some time to spare we recommend adding the local coffee shops to your list of things to do in Krasnoyarsk and just taking it all in.
Ok so this may be a tough one, but one of our most incredible experiences in Siberia was meeting the insta-famous, 91 year old traveller, also known as Babushka Lena. A native of Krasnoyarsk!
She gave a motivating speech one evening at Yushin Brothers Barber Loft and expressed how she feels about people that question if she’s ‘too old to travel’.
A couple of things she said stuck with us that evening, one being ‘I wish that everybody takes what they can from life’ and the other ‘When death comes, I won’t be at home…’
If you ever question what you’re doing with your life and why you are still travelling, then this is the lady to take inspiration from. You can follow her on instagram @babushka_1927.
