How To Get From Lombok To Gili Trawangan
The easiest way to get from Lombok to Gili Trawangan is via Bangsal ferry port.
Simply head to Bangsal ferry port and ask for directions to whichever boat you want to take below.
Public boat – 15,000IDR – Takes roughly 30 minutes and leaves every time there are 40 people ready. Which usually isn’t long as there as lots of locals!
Fast boat – 85,000 IDR – Takes roughly 15 minutes and leaves every hour, on the hour.
All ferries from Bangsal run daily starting at 9am and finishing at 6pm.
Top 9 Things To Do On Gili Trawangan
1. Rent Bikes & Explore
Gili Trawagan is the perfect size to explore by bicycle!
You can rent them for around 40,000 IDR per day from all over the island and you’ll see many tourists taking to two wheels to explore everything there is to see on Gili T.
2. Snorkelling Trip
The most popular of the things to do on Gili Trawangan is to take to the waters.
Known for its beautiful fish, turtles and underwater statues a snorkelling trip is a must when visit the Gili Islands.
3. Chill At The Many Beaches
Why else would you go to a beautiful Indonesian island?
Our favourite of the beaches has to be the one in front of The Exile Bar, right where the famous sunset swings are located. It’s clear blue waters in the day make for a great place to hang out and chill.
4. Take A Massage On The Beach
If you really want to unwind how better than to take a massage on the beach!
The prices start at around 150,000 IDR per hour and they can be found all over the island.
5. Visit The Gili T Swings
One of the most famous things to do on Gili Trawangan.
There are swings dotted around the west side of the island and hammocks galore as you bike around. Make sure to head down early if you plan to visit at sunset though as they can get pretty busy from around 6pm.
6. Eat At The Night Market
Located on the main square next to the port, the night market begins every evening at 6pm.
From your typical tourist bargains to some authentic Indonesian cuisine and awesome homemade cakes. We recommend stopping at the night market after dinner to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings!
7. Have A Night Out At Sama Sama Reggae Bar
Gili Trawangan is quite the party island for western visitors, although we prefer more of a chilled vibe.
There are clubs and bars dotted all the way along the main strip of Gili T, but our favourite has to be Sama Sama Reggae Bar. It’s become somewhat known as the place to just relax and wind down with great live music every night from 7pm.
8. Stroll The Shops
As well as the standard souvenirs, Gili T actually has some quirky little bikini and clothing stores.
If you’re looking for some fashionable bits for your travels, or something to take home, then there are plenty of hipster stores along the main street.
9. Dinner On The Beach
Every night without fail we’d sit for hours on the beach and eat fresh food.
Our favourite place to hang was Blue Ocean 2 – offering pasta and pizza deals from 25,000 IDR + free salad and soup buffet!
AND DON’T RIDE THE HORSES!!
Please whatever you do don’t buy into the animal cruelty that exists on on Gili Trawangan.
There are no motorised vehicles allowed on the island so the options are walk, bike or horse and cart.
The animals are treated so badly and it’s so sad to see. We witness horses being whipped for no reason, being overloaded with luggage, having glasses and hats put on them and salivating in need of water.
It’s common sense that it’s unethical to ride these horses and there’s been rumours that the locals even cut the electricity poles at night so tourists feel the need to ride horses around for safety.
Luxury – Kelapa Villas – A range of luxury private villas, each with it’s own swimming pool, Kelapa Villas is definitely the top place to stay on the island!
Mid-Budget – White Coconut Cottage – An affordable night of luxury on a paradise island. White coconut cottage is situated just peacefully outside of the main strip.
Budget – Flipside Bungalows – A Cheap and cheerful accommodation with everything you need. Ideal for backpackers!
