GETTING AROUND Ubud + TIPS

Getting around Ubud couldn’t be easier. There are generally 3 options:

RENT A SCOOTER:

We always choose to rent scooters, which start at around 50,000 IDR per day, and explore ourselves.

However be sure to read up on our Renting A Scooter In Bali guide beforehand!

Most accommodations will allow you to store your big bags with them, even after checkout.

So if you’re comfortable on two wheels, and looking for somewhere to rent scooters from, you can book a trusted scooter rental here.

HIRE A DRIVER:

Another option is to rent a driver, which is pretty popular for day trips around Bali, and they start at around 500,000 IDR per day (8 hours).

You can opt for standard 5 seater vans, or larger minibuses for bigger groups.

This is a great option for those looking to design their own itinerary. Simply jump in, tell you driver exactly where you wish to go, and he’ll navigate the most efficient route.

If you’re looking for for a reliable service, you can book a private car with a driver for the day here.

TAKE A TOUR:

Some of the best days out we’ve had in Bali have been on private tours.

For those short on time, or that prefer everything to be organised for them, there are some awesome tours on Get Your Guide available to book in advance.

There’s even a Bali: Full-Day Instagram Highlights Tour, for those looking to photograph its most recognisable locations.

From sunrise hikes, to waterfall treks and island hopping, there’s plenty to keep you busy on the bustling island!

Tegenungan Waterfall

If you’re looking to explore some of the best waterfalls near Ubud, then Tegenungan Waterfall has to be on the list.

Located just a 20 minute drive from Ubud, Tegenungan is a touristy waterfall for a reason.

If you hit it on a hot, clear day Teguenungan Waterfall is heaven. However, in monsoon season, or you’re visiting after there’s been a storm, it can be pretty dangerous.

We visited a couple of times and on one occasion no swimming was allowed! Although if you just want to cool off there are plenty of spots where you can take a dip without it being a hazard.

Tegenungan is a social place and super family friendly. There’s a part where you can play around with the funny signs and create photos with the waterfall in the backdrop. There’s also a swing that’s been created – for the perfect Bali Instagram photo.

There are two platforms to view the Waterfall from, both connected by a bamboo bridge.

You can pay another 10,000 Rupiah to get an awesome middle level view and even go another tier higher to the top of Tegenungan.

From here you can really see the speed of the falls as well as the huge drop in which it starts.

Don’t forget to save 15,000 Rupiah for your well deserved corn on the cob, on the way out!

If you’re looking for a family friendly visit then this probably the best waterfall near Ubud.

Entrance: 15,000 IDR per person.

Parking: Scooters – FREE / Cars – 5,000 IDR.

Tibumana Waterfall

Tibumana Waterfall is one of Bali’s best kept secrets.

There are a number of tourists that flock to Tibumana, however it seems to be more of a favourite among locals. Along with Tukad Cepung Waterfall, these two waterfalls near Ubud are definitely worth a visit on a sunny day.

With an easy walk down and a beautiful swimming spot at the bottom, Tibumana Waterfall is one of the quieter waterfalls near Ubud.

If you’re into photography or even just on a Bali waterfalls hunt Tibumana is the perfect place to capture some awesome shots.

For something a little less touristy then this is your spot.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Cepung Waterfall is definitely one of the most unique and interesting waterfalls near Ubud.

This epic spot has an adventurous, jungle like trail leading up to it and is famous for the crazy sun rays that shine through!

The walk to get down to Tukad Cepung was straight forward and easy enough. Although, unlike most Bali waterfalls, this one you had to wade through a knee-high river and over a few rocks to get there.

We headed straight to Tukad Cepung at around 10am, after our Tegalalang Rice Terrace visit, which is the perfect time of day to catch the rays of light.

So if you’re on a chase to find unique waterfalls near Ubud, and are a bit of an adventurer, Tukad Cepung Waterfall is quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Entrance: 10,000 IDR per person.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

From the car park, it’s a steady five minute walk by stairs to reach Kanto Lampo Waterfall.

The walk runs through the rice terraces and down into the rocks. It’s one of the easiest waterfalls in Bali to get to and it’s highly suitable for families and small children. It doesn’t involve any strenuous trekking or dangerous obstacles.

We recommend visiting as early as possible in order to get some space at the waterfall as it can get a little busy and there is not so much space to explore.

The waterfall itself is a peaceful escape into the Bali jungle and a great way to relax out of peak times.

Entrance: 15,000 IDR per person.
